Knowledge Exchange

What is Knowledge Exchange?

Knowledge exchange bridges the gap between evidence-based research and action. It is a dynamic process that involves knowledge transfer — using traditional or new communication methods — between researchers and those who use the research. Successful knowledge exchange entails effective two-way communication and takes into consideration the local setting and impact.

Our Approach

While the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) has always engaged in knowledge exchange, we have now stepped up our efforts by employing a broader team approach that draws on management, researchers, knowledge exchange officers, liaison officers, thematic leads, and communications staff. Our knowledge exchange activities have been more fully integrated into project lifecycles, from project scoping to product development and evaluation.

A stronger focus on knowledge exchange is producing:

  • tailored products, tools, and resources to meet the needs of our customers in their local situations
  • greater uptake and impact of our work
  • strengthened relationships between CADTH, decision-makers, patients, and partners
  • more innovative products and more efficient processes.
