Contractor Opportunities

Are you a medical writer, clinical expert, researcher or an economist interested in doing independent contract work with CADTH?

The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) is a national body that provides Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial health care decision makers with credible, impartial advice and evidence-based information about the effectiveness and efficiency of drugs and other health technologies. We are looking for qualified, independent contractors to assist us from time to time in the preparation of our products. Our products include environmental scans, rapid reviews (various levels) and peer-reviewed full systematic reviews and economic evaluations.

Environmental Scans:
Environmental scans are short reports on current or emerging issues in health care technology. We alert decision makers through our environmental scans to new and emerging health technologies that are likely to have a significant impact on the delivery of health care in Canada.

We are looking for writers with an aptitude for locating information in “difficult to find” places. This work will involve contacting federal, provincial and territorial sources for information that is not publicly available or published in traditional sources. It is important to have a clear writing style and an ability to translate complex medical issues into easy to understand language.

The minimum level of knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in a research-related discipline plus at least 2-4 years of health sector research experience.

Please visit our Environmental Scans section on our website for further information.

Rapid Reviews:
Rapid reviews are reports that we prepare in response to inquiries related to the assessment of health care technologies, which include drugs, devices, diagnostic tests, and medical and surgical procedures. We tailor the reports to meet the needs of decision makers, and take into account the urgency and potential impact of the request. Rapid review reports range from a reference list to a detailed assessment of the best evidence-based information on a topic.

We are looking for researchers with experience and skills in conducting literature reviews. It is important to have experience and skills in critically appraising the published scientific and medical literature as well as the ability to meet tight timelines.

The minimum level of education is a graduate degree in Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Pharmaco-epidemiology or Health Services Research.

Please visit our Rapid Reviews section on our website for further information.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with multi-disciplinary teams, advisory committees and external reviewers/experts

For Formulary Reviews, clinical experts are engaged for about 10-15 hours over 3 months and are responsible for:

  • Supporting a review team made up of 2 to 3 research officers, health economists, project manager, submissions officer and a methodology advisor.
