Concurrent Session 19 – Panel Discussion
From Evidence to Practice: Changing the Approach to Self-Management of Diabetes
- Panellists: Barb Shea and Denis Belanger, Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health
The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) recommends that most patients with non-insulin treated type 2 diabetes should not test their blood glucose levels as much as they do now and that a reduction in testing will not negatively impact their health. This recommendation is in contrast to current practice, where self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) is a well-established practice used by patients to manage their disease. This presentation will outline the evidence and methodology behind CADTH’s recommendation and the opportunities and barriers with respect to the practical application of the evidence
