Fondaparinux for Post-operative Venous Thrombosis Prophylaxis

The Canadian Coordinating Office for Health Technology Assessment has published an emerging technology bulletin on Fondaparinux (ArixtraTM), a synthetic anticoagulant that was recently approved in Canada for the prevention of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) following hip replacement surgery, knee surgery and other orthopedic surgeries of the lower limbs.
VTE includes pulmonary embolism, a particularly serious complication that can lead to death.
