Mike Gaucher Appointed Acting VP, HTA

February 26, 2004

OTTAWA — CCOHTA President Dr. Jill M. Sanders is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Gaucher to the position of Acting Vice President, Health Technology Assessment.

Initially appointed in January pending the arrival of Dr. Rod Taylor as permanent VP, HTA in June, Mr. Gaucher will continue in his new role. Dr. Taylor will not be joining CCOHTA as planned due to personal reasons.

“Mr. Gaucher was able to step in on short notice and keep everyone focused in a period of rapid growth and change,” said Dr. Sanders. “CCOHTA is fortunate to be able to draw on an experienced manager who has an existing relationship with our HTA group and an appreciation of the work involved in developing a world-class HTA program.”

As Acting VP, HTA, Mr. Gaucher has overall responsibility for the management of CCOHTA’s HTA Directorate and its programs and staff. He will also serve as a full member of CCOHTA’s executive management group for the term of the appointment.

Mr. Gaucher holds an undergraduate degree in pharmacy and a Masters in Business Administration. He has 15 years experience in hospital pharmacy management where he was involved in strategic planning, program development, and drug use/formulary management. Mr. Gaucher has worked extensively with hospital and provincial Department of Health committees as well as the Advisory Committee on Institutional Pharmacy Practice and Formulary Committee of Saskatchewan Health. He has been actively involved in several professional associations and has held executive appointments with provincial and national pharmacy organizations.

The Canadian Coordinating Office for Health Technology Assessment is an independent not-for-profit organization that provides unbiased, reliable information about health technologies. CCOHTA delivers a health technology assessment program and the Common Drug Review. CCOHTA is funded by the Canadian federal, provincial and territorial governments.
