CADTH Awards 2007 HTA Capacity Building Grants
March 29, 2007
OTTAWA – The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) has awarded $475,000 in grants to support innovative projects in an effort to build capacity to carry out and apply health technology assessments (HTAs) across Canada, HTA Vice President Mike Gaucher announced today.
The program, now in its fourth year, is designed to enhance the capacity of the Canadian health care system to undertake and apply health technology assessments and their results in policy formulation and decision-making. “The grants awarded this year will continue to build on existing HTA capacity and increase the resources available for this critical activity,” said Mike Gaucher. “The diversity and quality of the selected projects will enhance the capacity to conduct HTA work and support its application in decision making.”
CADTH’s HTA Capacity Building Grants Program provides support to provincially based non-profit health care or health research organizations or to educational institutions with an established health technology assessment capability. This year, grants were awarded in two streams: Knowledge Transfer/Exchange for HTA Reports and Workshops/Educational Programs. CADTH has awarded more than $5 million in grants to support HTA projects throughout Canada since the Program was created in 2004.
The projects approved for funding this year range from developing a health technology assessment workshop, to adapting business practices to facilitate the increased use of HTAs in health care organizations. These projects contribute to increased HTA capacity, meet the objectives of the grant stream and overall program, and best support CADTH in fulfilling its mandate.
Summaries of funded projects are available on CADTH’s web site. All projects supported through these grants must be completed by March 31, 2008.
