To help health care providers, policy decision-makers, and consumers make well-informed decisions about the optimal use of solvent/detergent-treated human plasma (S/D plasma), the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health's (CADTH) completed research and resulting recommendation are now available.

The addendum listed above summarizes updated information released since the systematic review was originally commissioned by Canadian Blood Services in 2007.

CADTH originally published Octaplas Compared with Fresh Frozen Plasma to Reduce the Risk of Transmitting Lipid-Enveloped Viruses: An Economic Analysis and Budget Impact Analysis in March 2008. A new report was published in March 2011 (listed above), which includes more recent estimates of the risks of transfusion-related adverse events and updated cost-effectiveness findings.
