Lisa Dolovich, BScPhm, PharmD, MSc, Chair
Dr. Dolovich is an academic pharmacist with a primary appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. She holds cross-appointments to the Departments of Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster and maintains a clinical practice in the Medication Assessment Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. Dr. Dolovich is a scientist at the Centre for Evaluation of Medicines (CEM), a multidisciplinary research group, whose aim is to promote the best use of drug and therapeutic interventions in the delivery of health care through research and educational activities. She leads a research program called the Team for Individualizing Pharmacotherapy in Primary Care for Seniors (TIPPS; www.tippsnetwork.ca) that aims to find better solutions to the problems seniors face when choosing or using medications in the primary care setting. TIPPS is one of the main research groups at CEM and in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster. Dr. Dolovich has expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, systematic overviews and meta-analyses as well as various areas related to health services interventions, educational interventions, drug use evaluation and pharmacy practice.

Michael Allen , MD
Dr. Allen is the Director of Evidence-based Programs and Associate Professor at Dalhousie University Continuing Medical Education. Previous to beginning his current position in 1994, he worked as a family physician in rural and urban areas of Nova Scotia for 17 years. Dr. Allen has developed many educational interventions for rural and urban health professionals in Nova Scotia, including physicians, pharmacists and dentists. He helped start the Dalhousie Academic Detailing Service and was also instrumental in the formation of the Canadian Academic Detailing Collaboration. Dr. Allen has chaired and is a member of the Drug Evaluation Alliance of Nova Scotia. He is currently enrolled in a Masters Program in Community Health and Epidemiology to further develop his critical appraisal skills.

Mike Evans, MD, CCFP
Dr. Evans is a family physician and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto in the Departments of Family Medicine and Public Health. His academic work has focused on innovative solutions for making evidence-based decisions easier for both patients and primary care clinicians. Dr. Evans launched the Mini-Med School in 2004 and won the 2007 “Healthy U of T” award for its impact on the Toronto community. He is a founding member of the Centre for Effective Practice and was chair of the provincial guideline service (OPOT). He was also a Scientific Officer for Knowledge Translation and Exchange at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and was a member of Ontario's Drug Quality and Therapeutics Committee (DQTC).
Dr. Evans was recently named Chair of Patient Education for the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He is also Director and founder of the Health Design Lab at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Scott Klarenbach , MD, MSc, FRCPC
Dr. Scott Klarenbach is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton; a Fellow at the Institute of Health Economics, and the Medical Director of Home Hemodialysis, Northern Alberta Renal Program. Dr. Klarenbach is a nephrologist and has an MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, in the United Kingdom. He has performed several economic evaluations, has been involved in several randomized trials, and collaborated on several systematic reviews. Dr. Klarenbach has been involved with CADTH in several areas including health technology assessments, optimal use projects, and pharmacoeconomic reviews for the Common Drug Review.

Cathy MacNutt ,BA, PMP
Mrs. MacNutt is a project manager involved in geriatric medicine research. She is a former Deputy Minister of Health for the province of Nova Scotia; Deputy National Director of Operations for Blood Services; and former Deputy Minister of Consumer Affairs in Nova Scotia. She has worked in public and private sector operations, including health services delivery, project management, corporate governance, strategic planning and organizational development. Mrs. MacNutt is serving on the solvent detergent treated human plasma expert advisory panel as a public member, bringing a lay perspective to the proceedings.

Panos Petrides, BSc, BA, MPA
Mr. Petrides is the founder and principal of a Toronto-based private consulting company engaged in conflict resolution, government relations, and public policy. He was a Special Advisor to the Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission and an Executive Assistant to the Ontario Assistant Deputy Minister of the Environment. Mr. Petrides is currently a member of the Consent and Capacity Board of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care. He is serving on solvent detergent treated human plasma expert advisory panel as a public member, representing the broader public interest in the proceedings of this committee.

Jim Silvius, BA (Oxon), MD, FRCP
Dr. Jim Silvius is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, at the University of Calgary. He obtained his BA in Physiology and Psychology from Oxford University in the United Kingdom, his MD and Specialty in Internal Medicine from the University of Alberta, and his Specialty in Geriatric Medicine from Dalhousie University. He is currently Senior Medical Director, Seniors' Health, Alberta Health Services, based in Calgary. He maintains a clinical practice in Geriatrics at the Rockyview General Hospital. His primary research interests are in dementia care, although he also has an active interest in care delivery; he led the development of the Telehealth Outreach Program for the Department of Medicine, University of Calgary until 2007. He has been a member of the Alberta Health and Wellness Expert Committee on Drug Evaluation and Therapeutics since 1999 and its Chair since 2004. He is the current Chair of the Alberta Medical Association’s Health Issues Council and former Alberta representative to the CMA Committee on Health Care and Promotion. He was also a former member of the Alberta Advisory Committee on Health Technologies.

Adil Virani, BSc Pharm, PharmD, FCSHP
Dr. Virani is a Director of Pharmacy Services with the Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Health Care, and Provincial Health Services Authority, where he is responsible for the Professional Practice portfolio, Residency and Student Education, Academic Detailing, and pharmacy operations at Burnaby Hospital. He is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He coordinates a therapeutics course for third-year pharmacy students and psychiatry residents in the Faculty of Medicine. He has published over 30 articles, has delivered over 100 presentations, and is the lead editor of the Clinical Handbook of Psychotropic Drugs, which is now in its 18th edition and is the 2009 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year. He was also co-author of the Clinical Handbook of Psychotropic Drugs for Children and Adolescents (2nd edition). Dr. Virani is a member of the Education Working Group of the Therapeutics Initiative in BC, a member of the Human Drug Advisory Panel (HDAP) of the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), and a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

Gilles Delage
Dr. Delage studied medicine and graduated at the Université de Montréal in 1969. He then pursued his medical education and was awarded a specialty certificate in medical microbiology in 1974. Dr. Delage began his career at Hôpital Sainte-Justine where he created the infectious diseases consultation service. His previous positions include Assistant Medical Director at the Canadian Red Cross Society - Montreal Centre and Scientific Director at the Laboratoire de santé publique du Québec. In August 2000, he joined Héma-Québec; his current position in the organization is Vice-President, Medical Affairs - Microbiology.
Doctor Delage has been involved in many committees, such as the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, the Editorial Committee of the Canadian Infectious Diseases Journal, the Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec, the Expert Working Group on Blood Standards of Health Canada’s Biologics and Genetic Therapies Directorate, as well as the Comité québécois sur l’approvisionnement, la gestion et la distribution du sang. He has been a member of the Infectious Disease and Immunization Committee of the Canadian Pediatric Society and chaired the Canadian Pediatric Surveillance Program Steering Committee. He acted as Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases for close to 10 years. Finally, he chairs the Canadian Standards Association’s Technical Committee on Blood and Blood Components, whose main goal is to issue and update the national standard for the collection and handling of blood and blood products.
Dr Delage is the principal or secondary author of 90 peer reviewed articles and 8 book chapters. His main fields of interest are post-transfusion infections, bacterial contamination of blood products, and adverse reactions to blood transfusions.

Antonio Giulivi, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Giulivi completed his Undergraduate studies in Immunology at McGill University and then pursued his medical studies and a Fellowship in Hematological Oncology at the University of Pavia Italy. In 1985, he returned back to Canada to carry out his Hematological Pathology training at Ottawa University and received his Fellowship in 1990. Later Dr. Giulivi completed a 2-year Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine.
He currently is the Divisional Head of Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and Director of the Hemopoietic Stem Cell and Therapeutic Apheresis Division at Canadian Blood Services (CBS) at the Ottawa Blood Centre.
Dr. Giulivi's current areas of research interest include Hematological Pathology, CJD, Infectious Disease Transmission in Blood, Organs and Tissues, and Adult Peripheral Blood Stem Cells. He has over 60 peer review articles, 100 abstracts and has been invited numerous times to speak at lectures both nationally and internationally in his related fields.

Glenn Griener, BSc, MA, PhD
Dr. Griener is a philosopher who specializes in the areas of health care ethics and research ethics. He holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in philosophy from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.Sc. degree in physics from Loyola University, New Orleans. He is an associate professor with the School of Public Health and the Department of Philosophy at the University of Alberta, where he has taught ethics to students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and philosophy for twenty-five years. His current research focuses on issues of privacy and the secondary uses of electronic health records, and on issues of resource allocation.
Dr. Griener has a distinguished record of public service. He is the ethicist on Alberta’s Provincial
Electronic Health Record Data Stewardship Committee, and has served for many years as the ethicist on the province’s Out-of-Country Health Services Appeals Panel. He is a past president of the National Council on Ethics in Human Research and currently chairs a committee which is developing a national standard for research ethics boards which review clinical trials.

Bruce Ritchie
Dr. Ritchie is a Hematologist, Oncologist, and Associate Professor at the University of Alberta. He finished medical school in Edmonton in 1978, completed further clinical training in internal medicine, hematology and oncology in Christchurch New Zealand, Calgary and Vancouver. He spent 5 years in a post-doctoral fellowship in Dr. Ross MacGillivray's lab in biochemistry at the University of British Columbia before returning to Edmonton in 1991. His clinical interests include bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders, immunodeficiency, hereditary angioedema, and blood borne pathogens. His laboratory works on tissue archiving, characterization of mutations, oligonucleotide based gene therapy, endothelial cell progenitors, and the use of ink jet printers to print biomaterials and cells.
Dr. Ritchie is also a member of the Canadian Hemophilia Society's Blood Safety and Supply Committee whose mandate is to monitor the safety and efficacy of blood products. He is also the driving force behind the Blood Borne Pathogen Surveillance Project which assists researchers looking into blood borne pathogens in Canada that could be transmitted by blood or blood products or their biological alternatives.

Dr. Kristine Roland received her Medical Degree at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario. She went on to complete residency training in Hematological Pathology at Queen’s, then completed a one-year fellowship in Transfusion Medicine in association with Canadian Blood Services and the University of British Columbia. After working as a staff Hematopathologist in Winnipeg Manitoba, she returned to her roots in Vancouver B.C. where she is now employed as a
staff Hematopathologist at Vancouver Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of B.C. She actively participates in transfusion medicine issues within the region, and has an interest in blood conservation and transfusion guidelines
