Advisory Committees

The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health is assisted by Advisory Committees that report to the Board of Directors.

Advisory Committee on Pharmaceuticals (ACP)

The Advisory Committee on Pharmaceuticals (ACP) serves both the Common Drug Review (CDR) and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) directorates.

The mandate of the ACP is to provide advice to the:

  • CADTH Board of Directors and Health Technology Assessment program on HTA pharmaceutical issues and assessments
  • Board of Directors and Common Drug Review program on the CDR process,
  • Board of Directors and HTA and CDR directorates on more effective sharing of pharmaceutical information nationally and internationally.

The Committee consists of voting members from the federal, provincial, and territorial publicly funded drug plans, and health-related organizations.

COMPUS Advisory Committee (CAC)

The COMPUS Advisory Committee provides advice to the CADTH Board of Directors and the Canadian Optimal Medication Prescribing and Utilization Service (COMPUS) on priority areas for optimal drug therapy initiatives, COMPUS activities and products, and other issues, where appropriate, to enable COMPUS to meet its goals and objectives. The COMPUS Advisory Committee consists of designees from participating provincial and territorial health ministries and the federal publicly funded drug programs.

Canadian Expert Drug Advisory Committee (CEDAC)

The Canadian Expert Drug Advisory Committee is an independent advisory body of health and other professionals with expertise in drug therapy and drug evaluation. The Committee makes recommendations to each of the participating federal, provincial, and territorial, publicly funded drug plans regarding the listing of drugs on their formularies. The approach is evidence-based and the advice reflects medical and scientific knowledge and current clinical practice.

COMPUS Expert Review Committee (CERC)

The COMPUS Expert Review Committee is an advisory body that makes recommendations related to the identification, evaluation, and promotion of optimal drug prescribing and use in Canada. The approach is evidence-based and the advice reflects current medical and scientific knowledge, as well as clinical practice in the Canadian health care system.

CERC includes Core Members who serve for all topics under consideration, Specialist Experts who provide their expertise in recommending optimal prescribing and use of drugs for specific topics, and Public Members, who represent the broad public interest. Core Members include individuals with qualifications as physicians, pharmacists, health economists or other relevant qualifications.

Devices and Systems Advisory Committee (DSAC)

The Devices and Systems Advisory Committee advises the Board of Directors and staff of the Canadian Agency of Drugs and Technologies in Health on issues and trends related to medical devices, health systems, and health services in Canada. It also recommends priorities for device and health systems assessments. The Committee members are appointed by the Board of Directors and represent the participating provincial and territorial ministries of health and Health Canada.
