COMPUS Communiqué – Vol. 3, No. 6

April 25, 2007

In This Issue

The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH), through its COMPUS program, has released its first in a series of evidence-based Intervention Tools regarding the prescribing and use of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), aimed at influencing behaviour.

These tools are designed to assist in the implementation of COMPUS key messages that are contained in the previously released Optimal Therapy Reports on PPIs.

Intervention Tools were developed based on the process contained in the COMPUS Selection of Interventions Report. The first group of Tools released include:

  • Academic Detailing Newsletter — summary of clinical evidence on optimal PPI prescribing and use for gastroesophageal reflux disease, dyspepsia, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced ulcer
  • Quick Reference Prescribing Aid — contains key messages and comparative PPI cost information
  • Alternate Prescription Pad — provides suggested lifestyle modifications and basic management strategies for GI conditions
  • COMPUS/RxFiles Pearls Document — detailed evidence and messaging "PEARLS"

All COMPUS Intervention Tools are available for download and use. We would be pleased to assist you, should you be interested in implementing a COMPUS Intervention. Please contact us at compusinfo@cadth.ca or (613) 226-2553.

Next Steps
COMPUS will post additional educational intervention tools in May and June of this year.
