To assist health care providers, policy makers, and consumers in making well-informed decisions about second-line therapy for patients with diabetes inadequately controlled on metformin, our completed research and resulting recommendations will be available in a series of Optimal Therapy Reports that provide:

• evidence-based recommendations for optimal prescribing and use
• a clear picture of current practice and current utilization in Canada with respect to second-line antidiabetes drugs in patients with type 2 diabetes
• an outline of gaps between current prescribing and use.
