CADTH and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) Real-World Evidence Collaboration

( Last Updated : May 26, 2022)

There is increasing interest in the use of real-world data to generate real-world evidence to complement evidence from randomized clinical trials for the purpose of decision-making.

CADTH and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) have initiated a pilot project to develop multiple projects that leverage the CIHI databases (e.g., Discharge Abstract Database [DAD], National Ambulatory Care Reporting System [NACRS], National Prescription Drug Utilization System [NPDUIS]). These data will be used to inform projects focused on the real-world utilization, expenditures, safety, and effectiveness of drugs available in the Canadian market.

CADTH will develop these projects based on requests and feedback from jurisdictional stakeholders (i.e., public drug plans). This collaboration will also help CADTH identify and develop real-world evidence capabilities within this ongoing learning period.
