The study investigated current practices and implementation issues for antibiotic therapies, particularly fluoroquinolones, for specific indications. The study was conducted from the perspective of family physicians, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists. Indications included: uncomplicated cystitis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute bacterial sinusitis.

The research findings are based on the results of qualitative research in the form of surveys of primary care practitioners, as well as a targeted literature review on the use of fluoroquinolones in Canada.
