New Chair (Elect) of CADTH pCODR Expert Review Committee (pERC) Appointed

October 20, 2015, Ottawa, Ontario — Dr. Brian O’Rourke, President and CEO of CADTH, today announced that Maureen Trudeau, MD, FRCPC, has been appointed Chair (Elect) of the CADTH pCODR Expert Review Committee (pERC) for a six-month term beginning April 1, 2016.  Dr. Trudeau will assume the role of pERC Chair from Dr. Anthony Fields when his term as inaugural Chair ends on October 1, 2016.

The role of CADTH pERC is to assess the clinical, economic, and patient evidence for cancer drugs in order to make recommendations to the provinces and territories to guide their drug funding decisions.

Dr. Trudeau is a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. She acted as Head of the Division of Medical Oncology/Hematology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for more than 15 years, and leads the Systemic Therapy Program at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook. She is an associate scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and professor of medicine at the University of Toronto. As co-Chair of the Breast Cancer Disease Site Group in the Program in Evidence-Based Care, Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), Dr. Trudeau is involved in practice guideline development. In 2006, she became a member of the CED-CCO Subcommittee on new cancer drugs. Dr. Trudeau is the former provincial head of the Systemic Treatment Program for CCO (January 2006 to December 2009) and was responsible for leading the development of indicators, guidelines, and standards for systemic therapy in Ontario. She was also in charge of the dissemination and transfer of knowledge around these products. She is the current Vice-Chair of pERC.

Dr. Trudeau's research interests include long-term survivorship, targeted neoadjuvant therapies in breast cancer, and the use of new drugs. Her research has been published in many professional medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.
