Chronic pain is defined as pain lasting longer than 3 months, and it affects approximately 19% of adults in Canada. In 2021, CADTH completed an Environmental Scan entitled Models of Care for Chronic Pain. One of the models of care described in the Environmental Scan was the hub-and-spoke model.

This project aims to respond to the questions:

  • What literature describes the potential clinical benefits and harms of providing care using hub-and-spoke models for the management of people with chronic non-cancer pain?
  • What literature describes the potential cost implications of providing care using hub-and-spoke models for the management of people with chronic non-cancer pain?
