Consultation on a Budget Impact Analysis Tool

Current consultation status: Closed
Consultation period: January 25 to February 22, 2024

CADTH is taking steps to help drug sponsors enhance the budget impact analyses (BIAs) included in the submissions they file with our Drug Reimbursement Review program.

BIAs help decision-makers understand the potential financial impact and affordability of introducing new drugs into publicly funded drug plans. CADTH has created a BIA template to give drug sponsors a structured series of inputs that will help them derive the budget impact of adding a new therapy to an existing set of treatments. Notably, the BIA tool is a template that drug sponsors may use to prepare their budget impact analyses submitted to CADTH, but they are not required to use this template.

CADTH is posting the draft BIA template for consultation with our stakeholders. The tool concept was also introduced and discussed during the 2023 CADTH Symposium.

Goals of the Consultation

The goal of the consultation is to gather feedback on aspects of the tool that could be improved. This can include improving clarity on user inputs, methodological assumptions, and calculations; ideas for additional functionality that could be incorporated for future versions of the tool; and identifying any errors.

How to Participate

Download the BIA tool and enable macros to ensure the tool's full functionality. If macros are not enabled, some steps may not be displayed. All contributors must submit their feedback electronically using the template provided. The deadline for submissions is February 22, 2024.
