CADTH is taking steps to help drug sponsors enhance the budget impact analyses (BIAs) included in the submissions they file with our Drug Reimbursement Review program.
BIAs help decision-makers understand the potential financial impact and affordability of introducing new drugs into publicly funded drug plans. CADTH has created a BIA template to give drug sponsors a structured series of inputs that will help them derive the budget impact of adding a new therapy to an existing set of treatments. Notably, the BIA tool is a template that drug sponsors may use to prepare their budget impact analyses submitted to CADTH, but they are not required to use this template.
CADTH is posting the draft BIA template for consultation with our stakeholders. The tool concept was also introduced and discussed during the 2023 CADTH Symposium.
The goal of the consultation is to gather feedback on aspects of the tool that could be improved. This can include improving clarity on user inputs, methodological assumptions, and calculations; ideas for additional functionality that could be incorporated for future versions of the tool; and identifying any errors.
Download the BIA tool and enable macros to ensure the tool's full functionality. If macros are not enabled, some steps may not be displayed. All contributors must submit their feedback electronically using the template provided. The deadline for submissions is February 22, 2024.
Questions about the consultation should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line “Consultation — Budget Impact Analysis Tool.”
The template is posted for public consultation and feedback purposes only. Users should wait until CADTH publishes a final version before applying this tool in health technology assessment or other policy decision work. While CADTH has taken care to ensure the information included in this tool is accurate, complete, and up-to-date as of its initial publication, CADTH does not make any guarantees to that effect. CADTH is not responsible for any errors, omissions, injury, loss, or damage arising from or relating to the use (or misuse) of any information, statements, or conclusions contained in or implied by the contents of this tool.
