There is increasing interest in the use of real-world data to generate real-world evidence (RWE) to complement evidence from randomized clinical trials for the purpose of decision-making.

CADTH and CIHI have initiated a pilot project to explore the feasibility and suitability of CIHI’s databases to support CADTH’s drug and health technology assessments. The analyses of the pilot project will be used by CADTH to inform projects focused on the real-world utilization, expenditures, safety, and effectiveness of drugs available in the Canadian market.

CADTH will develop these projects proactively or based on requests and feedback from jurisdictional stakeholders (i.e., public drug plans). This collaboration will also help CADTH identify and develop RWE capabilities within this initial learning period.
